Hansel & Gretel

Keeping with my current love of paper-cutting, I decided to create a scene from Hansel & Gretel using the same technique. Instead of a animation however, I created a scene that had depth using multiple layers of card on top of one another.
Lighting became very important again, and was something I became really interested in experimenting with.

Fragment 31 by Sappho.

‘He’s equal with the Gods, that man’

He’s equal with the Gods, that man
Who sits across from you,
Face to face, close enough, to sip
Your voice’s sweetness,

And what excites my mind,
Your laughter, glittering. So,
When I see you, for a moment,
My voice goes,

My tongue freezes. Fire,
Delicate fire, in the flesh.
Blind, stunned, the sound
Of thunder, in my ears.

Shivering with sweat, cold
Tremors over the skin,
I turn the colour of dead grass,
And I’m an inch from dying.

This is my first ever stop-motion animation. It is created with the techniques used by Lotte Reiniger, using shadow puppets on a light box. It is based on a poem fragment by Sappho, an ancient greek poet.

Mapping The Transient.

This was a short video created to be soothing and relaxing to watch. The sounds of the waves against the pebbles and the overlapping video layers make it a very peaceful video.
The sea, and waves are something I'd consider to be transient. As waves crash they are suddenly no more, they pulled back in. They last only for a short time.

Expanding Imagination

Here are two drawings I made based on the idea of the 'unknown' outside the frame of the photograph. Who knows what could be there?
Dragons?
Sinister shadows?

Beautiful Brighton

Since coming back to Brighton for the start of the new term, I have really noticed how beautiful Brighton is, especially at moments like the one below - the sunset.
This week the sky has been wonderful colours as I've walked home, but I was unable to capture them. So, in consequence I have started this personal project of documenting the beauty of Brighton.

First up, this gif of Brighton Pier, with murmurations of Starlings flying overhead.
